Maclin William Southard
Born: 1/14/1786; Orange County, North Carolina
Died: 1/29/1875; Dallas County, Missouri
Father: John Southard
Mother: Dorothy Gilliam
Maclin was the first of nine children born unto John and Dorothy Southard. He lived his childhood in Orange County, North Carolina and eventually married Nancy Wisdom of Guilford County in May of 1813.
Within the next two years, he and Nancy gave birth to their first child Lucinda. Soon after, their young family would move to White County, Tennessee as their next child was born there in 1820; in fact, the remaining eight of their surviving children were born in White County.
It 1843, that Maclin and his brothers Gilliam and Charles, with their families, left their home of White County, Tennessee and headed towards Missouri, via ox cart, with the Breshears family. Being farmers, the lure of inexpensive, fertile farmland was too enticing for the families. Maclin settled in Dallas County while Charles settled in neighboring Benton County. Their brother Gilliam settled in Maries County.
Maclin and Nancy were influential in the establishing of the New Hope Baptist Church in Louisburg, Missouri. It is there that they were eventually laid to rest.
